Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 3,667 new cases, 87 deaths; 8.9 regions change to Tier 1 mitigations

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois health officials reported 3,667 new cases of COVID-19 and 87 deaths on Tuesday.

This is at the time when Illinois officials announce that Region 8 (DuPage and Kane counties) and Region 9 (Lake and McHenry counties) have moved to Level 1 mitigations, allowing them to resume indoor meals.

All regions of Illinois are now in either Level 1 or Phase 4 reopening mitigations, except for Region 4 near St. Louis.

The total number of cases in Illinois is now 1,108,430, with a total of 18,883 deaths since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 69,285 samples for a total of 15,553,319.

As of Monday night, 3,001 patients in Illinois were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 608 patients were in the ICU and 320 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary positivity of the seven-day state test from January 19 to 25 is 5.7%.

The test’s positivity rate is a metric that the state began providing in late October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests over the total number of tests. This is the metric used by state health officials to make mitigation decisions.

A total of 1,227,625 doses of the vaccine were delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 537,050 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered to Illinois to 1,764,675 .

IDPH reports that a total of 719,995 doses of vaccine have been administered, including 110,403 in long-term facilities. The seven-day moving average of vaccines administered is 30,180.

Illinois is now reporting eight more cases of the potentially more contagious new variant COVID-19 first identified in the UK. So far, there was only one confirmed case here. All nine cases are within Cook County.

IDPH says vaccine delivery numbers are reported in real time and vaccine delivery numbers are delayed by up to 72 hours.

With Illinois now in Phase 1B, people over 65 and many essential workers are now eligible to receive the vaccine. This includes approximately 3.2 million more people.

The Illinois National Guard will be helping with vaccinations at Cook County Health Centers in half a dozen suburbs. More deployments are planned across the state.
Authorities said that as of Monday, these guards-backed locations will have consultations with 1B, as well as pharmacies at hundreds of Walgreens, CVS and Jewel stores.

Walgreens is providing vaccines at 92 locations across the state and appointments can be made on its website, while Jewel-Osco will begin vaccinating eligible residents on Tuesday, with appointments available on its website.

Governor JB Pritzker said there are plans to launch service outlets as soon as the vaccine supply increases.

On Monday, Governor Pritzker and Cook County Council President Toni Preckwinkle visited the Tinley Park Convention Center, which is preparing to become a mass vaccination site.

Governor Pritzker announced the creation of a new portal, coronavirus.illinois.gov, to provide the latest vaccine information.

“Today, as we launch the newest phase of our Vaccine Administration Plan for essential frontline workers and people aged 65 and over, I am proud to announce our vaccine locator across the state, searchable by code and city, at coronavirus.illinois.gov, “said Governor JB Pritzker. “This site will serve as a hub for all vaccine-related information, directing residents to the appointment scheduling pages of our 97 local health departments and our partner pharmacies, which will total hundreds of locations across the state. This also includes information about our first Illinois National Oversee the Mass Vaccination Site, which will open tomorrow at the Tinley Park Convention Center, and will be updated as more state-run locations and hundreds of additional local options become available, as federal supply is currently limited and every state in the country is facing a shortage, encourage all citizens of Illinois to come back regularly to see if there are available times – and in the meantime, disguise yourself, keep your distance, wash your hands and remember that we will stay healthy And safe if we take care of each other.
