Illinois COVID Update Today: IL reports 1,068 new cases of coronavirus, 14 deaths

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials reported 1,068 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths on Sunday.

IDPH reported a total of 1,198,335 COVID-19 cases, including 20,763 deaths since the pandemic began.

As of Saturday night, 1,141 patients in Illinois were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 255 patients were in the ICU and 112 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

In the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported testing 68,094 samples for a total of 18,640,190 since the start of the pandemic.

The positivity of the statewide seven-day preliminary test from February 28 to March 6 is 2.3%.

A total of 3,824,675 doses of the vaccine were delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 443,700 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered to Illinois to 4,268,375 .

When will children be able to receive the COVID vaccine?

IDPH reports that a total of 3,358,214 doses of vaccine have been administered, including 344,569 in long-term facilities. The seven-day moving average of vaccines administered is 98,183.

On Saturday, 98,550 doses of the vaccine were administered.

The first Illinois case of a more contagious variant of Brazil’s COVID-19 was identified in a patient in Chicago.

Northwestern Medicine researchers said they first identified P.1. variant, which was found for the first time earlier this year in travelers from Brazil during a screening at Tokyo airport. The Brazilian variant has already been found in several other countries.

Deaths reported on Saturday include:
– Cook County: 2 40 year old men, 1 60 year old woman, 1 60 year old man, 1 80 year old man
– Kankakee County: 1 male in his 60s

– Kendall County: 1 woman, 70 years old
– Lake County: 1 70 year old man
– Livingston County; 1 woman 60 years old
– Madison County: 1 woman 40 years old, 1 woman 60 years old
– Massac County: 1 man, 70 years old
– Peoria County: 1 female, 80 years old
– Will County: 1 80 year old man
