After looking at the insides of Apple’s new headphones, AirPods Max, the iFixit technology website, concluded that intricate engineering made the $ 550 high price seem almost reasonable. iFixit opened the headphones and, in short, said that after looking at competitors, “internally, the AirPods Max’s obsessive craftsmanship makes these other extremely capable devices look like toys in comparison.”

In our review, we noticed that the AirPods Max were large and expensive, but surprisingly comfortable with impressive sound. The iFixit review didn’t come after listening to the headphones in action. The website took the device apart to take a look inside and evaluate how easy it would be to repair.

The AirPods Max earned a 6 out of 10 on this front – the headphones are difficult to disassemble, but can be repaired as soon as you enter. In comparison, the headset versions of the AirPods repeatedly scored a zero out of ten on that scale. This larger model is definitely a step in the right direction, although it is still not easy if you want to do a DIY repair.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
