If you invested $ 1,000 in Moderna shares in January, that’s how much you would have now

Modern (NASDAQ: MRNA) it was quite a year.

Moderna delivered a much needed ray of hope to the world in November, when a phase 3 clinical trial showed that its coronavirus candidate vaccine, mRNA-1273, was 94.1% effective against COVID-19 – and up to 100% effective in prevention severe cases of the disease.

In addition, Moderna’s vaccine was considered generally safe and well tolerated, with no serious safety problems identified among the more than 30,000 study participants.

The world applauded. And investors reacted by bidding on Moderna’s shares, which were already up sharply in the year to date, based on previous progress in their efforts to develop the coronavirus vaccine.

In all, as of 11:45 am EST on December 31, the share price of Moderna rose 446% in 2020. Therefore, for every $ 1,000 invested in Moderna in January, you would have almost $ 5,500 today.

However, even more gains may be reserved for Moderna investors in 2021. The biotechnology company plans to use the profits from the sale of mRNA-1273 to finance the development of new vaccines for other diseases. If one or more of them prove to be safe and effective, Moderna – and its shareholders – may have more excellent years ahead of them.
