If Seahawks negotiates Russell Wilson, Zach Wilson could be a good substitute

Nobody wants to trade Russell Wilson. I would never support negotiating Russell Wilson. He is objectively a Top 5 defender and during the first half of the 2020 season, he was the best defender in the entire NFL according to Pro Football Focus. While that may be the case, the rumors that he wants to be traded are certainly unsettling. In this review of the video, I wanted to see the case where Russell Wilson was negotiated with another team – say, the New York Jets – that the Seattle Seahawks were supposed to take to replace him. In my opinion, if they were able to grab BYU’s Zach Wilson, he could be a great replacement for Russell Wilson and a perfect fit in Shane Waldron’s attack.

For those who don’t know Zach Wilson, he was BYU’s quarterback last season. He ended the season with a 73.5% completion rate, 11 yards per attempt, 33 touchdowns and just 3 fumbles. Wilson was the model for great plays combined with excellent decision making. In addition, his advantage with his ability to create outside of the script really stood out for me in the film.

Due to Zach Wilson’s meteoric rise from a relatively unknown perspective to where he is now, I think a Top 3 will be needed to select him. I mentioned the New York Jets in the introduction and # 2 in general, which is roughly where I see it going. I know Russell Wilson “wants” to play for the Chicago Bears, but they just don’t have the draft capital to make the Seahawks tall enough to choose a great quarterback like Zach Wilson. Again, I’m certainly not advocating for the Seahawks to trade you, but if they did, you could do much worse than Zach Wilson in a rookie contract in Shane Waldron’s attack.
