Iconic Miami Beach bar temporarily closes to protect the team after the hectic spring break nights

MIAMI BEACH, Florida – The companies in Miami Beach are taking care of the safety of their employees and customers. On Friday, the Clevelander restaurant and bar announced that it will close at least until next week for security reasons because of the spring break crowds.

The iconic Clevelander released a memo to employees on Friday afternoon, ensuring that they will be paid in full during the temporary closure.

“The situation has worsened enough that we are not comfortable asking our employees to work,” explains Clevelander attorney Alexander Tachmes. He says they will meet next week to reassess the closure.

Miami Beach police say they are doing everything possible to keep people safe as spring break has caused violence and chaos on the streets of South Beach.

News of the increase in police patrol comes less than a day after a riot on Ocean Drive between 8th and 9th streets prompted police to throw pepper balls to disperse the crowd in South Beach. The officers then detained at least three people, and Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel responded to help the injured.

Miami Beach Police Department spokesman, officer Ernesto Rodriguez, says they are increasing their presence 24 hours a day and are even using police officers from different jurisdictions to help this month, as spring break is in full swing. .

“Miami-Dade cops, Coral Gables, Miami Gardens, we even have the correction department here to help us transport prisoners back to prison,” explains Rodriguez. “Along our sidewalks, we received additional support from the Florida Highway Patrol.”

According to the authorities, the temporary closure of the MacArthur Causeway is a possibility in the near future, if the situation in Miami Beach worsens over the weekend.

“What started out as apparently peaceful is growing rapidly and, unfortunately, people are getting hurt,” says Rodriguez.

“We have implemented measures to curb any criminal activity, tame the crowds and encourage people who are here to behave responsibly,” explains Rodriguez. “Otherwise, the message is clear – you will be arrested.”
