Ice is being reported on some roads in the Houston area as the winter climate moves in the region.

A major winter storm is expected to bring freezing rain and cold temperatures to many parts of Texas in the coming days. The National Weather Service has issued warnings or winter storm alerts for most Texas counties. The Houston area was predicted to have its lowest temperatures in 30 years.

In the midst of the winter explosion, authorities are asking Texans to avoid taking to the roads.

“A lot of ice and snow in our state this morning, with more to come,” said James Bass, Executive Director of the Texas Department of Transportation. “If you can stay at home, stay at home. If you really need to drive, turn OFF and drive to conditions with the headlights on – to see and be seen by others. “

Several accidents were reported in the Houston area on Sunday morning.

“Please slow down,” Harris County sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on social media. “Several minor accidents have been reported since about 6 am this morning and conditions are only going to get worse. Accidents occurred at 290, in both directions, from about SH-99 to 2920. In all of these accidents, cars slipped on the walls.
