Ice Cube said in a recent interview that the Biden government approached him earlier this week and revealed that a possible meeting could be underway later this month.
The music and film star, who has been struggling in recent months to discuss his proposed Contract with Black America with the country’s top politicians, made the comments during an appearance on the “Ryan Cameron Uncensored” program on MAJIC 107.9 released on Wednesday.
“Yesterday they came to me,” he said, referring to the Biden government. However, he added that the details for a possible meeting have not yet been discussed. “We haven’t talked yet. We are just beginning to find out when we can have this meeting and how we will do it. ”
“I believe it will fall later this month,” he said later.
It was not clear which part of the administration sought out the Ice Cube from the interview.
At the beginning of the interview, the musician said he believed that the new government is “really interested in helping all minorities”, but added that “blacks in this country are in a unique position”.
“There needs to be things as much as specialty programs. You know me, I’m all about repairs. It sounds like a bad word for this government, but we have to change that. We need to get them to talk about reparations and add a little justice to this system, ”he said.
He later pointed out that reparations for black Americans can “come in different forms”, including “programs, subsidies” and “tax breaks”.
“We can find that out,” he continued. “It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Let’s take something. But you have to do something. “
During his interview, Ice Cube was also pressured about his previous communication with the previous government about his proposal for black America, which aims to present “a project to achieve racial economic justice” in the country.
The rapper received criticism last year after a Trump campaign advisor, Katrina Pierson, praised him on Twitter in October for working with the Trump administration on its “Platinum Plan” aimed at African Americans.
At the time, Ice Cube said that both parties contacted him after he released his own plan, but he said he was told by Democrats that he would address the issue “after the election”.
The former NWA member defended working with the Trump administration in the effort of the time, despite his previous criticisms of the president and his administration, which he hit in 2018, treated the White House “as a trap”.
He again resisted criticism this week, saying that “at the end of the day, if a Democrat or Republican is in the White House, they are still not looking at our agenda in the right way.”
“We still have to make them recognize and correct the situation. So, now, they like to acknowledge, but nobody wants to do whatever it takes to remedy the situation, ”he said. “Everyone wants to point out that, ‘Yes, you should be upset about your treatment in America.'”
“But nobody wants to do whatever it takes to fix it. So, this is the part that we need to address these politicians, and they have the power. They just aren’t going to do that, ”he said.
Commenting on the massive voter turnout seen in the African American community in the recent Senate runoff elections in Georgia, Ice Cube said, “I think that’s great. We always show up.”
“We appear for a party now mainly and do they appear to us as a whole? he continued, seeming to refer to the Democratic party.
“You know, right now, I feel like there’s a lot of symbolism out there, but there aren’t a lot of tangibles out there,” he added.
