‘ICarly’ star Jennette McCurdy has stopped acting

Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” fans can count on series co-star Jennette McCurdy, who has almost confirmed that she will not repeat her role as Sam Puckett in the next sequel season.

McCurdy, 28, confessed in a recent episode of a podcast she presents called “Empty Inside” that she is “ashamed” of her previous acting career.

“My experience as an actress is, I’m so ashamed of the roles I’ve played in the past,” she said. “I resent my career in many ways. I feel so dissatisfied with the roles I played and I felt like I was the most extravagant, embarrassing. “

Along with McCurdy, “iCarly” also stars Miranda Cosgrove (Carly Shay) and aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012. His character was later spun off in Nick’s series “Sam & Cat”, which launched the star’s career pop Ariana Grande (also known as Cat Valentine).

“I did the shows that I was between 13 and 21 years old, and at 15, I was already embarrassed,” recalled McCurdy. “My 15-year-old friends, they don’t say, ‘Oh, cool, you’re on this Nickelodeon show.’ It was embarrassing. And I imagine that there is a very different experience in acting, if you are proud of your roles and feel fulfilled by them. “

Talking to Anna Faris, an “Empty Inside” guest, McCurdy said she ended up stopping acting and accepting more writing and directing jobs. “It is going very well. I stopped a few years ago because I didn’t want to do that initially, ”she admitted.

“My family didn’t have a lot of money,” said McCurdy, whose mother encouraged her to start acting from the age of 6. “This was the way out, which I really think was helpful in getting me to some degree of success. “

The child actor said that “always, always, always, acting was difficult for me”, adding that her nerves often dominated her.

“As soon as I started to control my nerves it was when I started to really get a little traction, but I ended up giving up after my mother passed away, because with her death, a lot of her ideas for my life, travel, and certainly difficult have died ”, She explained.

She also confided one of her most painful memories of acting – when she was passed over for a role in the movie “Because of Winn-Dixie” in 2005, at around 13, because the casting agents thought she was too ” ugly ”for the role.

When Faris asked if she would act again, McCurdy confirmed that she gave up acting after the debut of her highly personal solo show “I’m Glad My Mom Died” in February 2020.

“I wrote this show for a woman, and I did it, and I really didn’t want to because of the nerves. For feeling like I don’t want to act anymore, ”she said.

But she wouldn’t say “never”, offering that the right director might be able to persuade her to return to the set.

“I feel like I have a point of view and I have a vision. We’ll see where things are in a few years, ”said McCurdy.
