I hope Hicks is resigning, but not because of the Capitol riots: report

President Trump’s longtime press officer and senior adviser Hope Hicks will leave the White House next week, becoming the last in a series of supporters to leave after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday.

Hicks told colleagues, however, that he already planned to resign next week and that his decision is not linked to the mutiny that claimed five lives, reports Bloomberg News.

The unrest, which interrupted the counting of votes at the Electoral College by handing over the White House to President-elect Joe Biden, sparked a bipartisan reaction from the Capitol, with many Democrats and some Republicans blaming Trump for inciting it.

Previous matches have included First Lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, who previously served as press secretary for the White House; White House spokeswoman Sarah Matthews; former chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, sent from Trump to Northern Ireland; and Deputy National Security Advisor Matt Pottinger.
