A suspected Capitol riot known as “QAnon Shaman” said he was “deeply disappointed” with former President Donald Trump for not being “honored”.
“I have to stop judging him for other people,” said Jacob Chansley in a statement. “I am deeply sorry and sorry that I entered the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. I shouldn’t have been there.”
Chansley was arrested three days after the January 6 uprising and charged with civil disorder, obstruction and disorderly conduct. He said earlier that he felt played by the former president and indicated an interest in testifying during Trump’s impeachment trial, which begins on Tuesday.
His lawyer Albert Watkins appeared in CNN Monday night to condemn the former president for the “Trump talk” and propaganda that created the “environment” before January 6.

“For people like Jake, for millions of Americans, they really stuck to every word of their president, our president, the person we allowed every day to speak to us in ways and styles that just didn’t exist. Really,” Watkins said. Chris Cuomo of CNN.
Watkins went on to describe the “unfolding process” that his client had to go through while in police custody – which he compared to having been deprogrammed from a sect.
“The unwinding process will not be complete until the end of this week, when this impeachment trial is concluded,” Watkins told Cuomo. “It will not end until the next election. It is a process that will require patience and introspection.”
Trump was impeached in January for the second time by the House in relation to the Capitol riots. The impeachment trial begins this Tuesday in the Senate.
