I-70 closed from Morrison to Silverthorne, in eastern Colorado due to worsening snow conditions

DENVER – Interstate 70 was closed in both directions from the Denver metropolitan area to Silverthorne on Saturday night, and later closed in eastern Colorado, as road conditions worsened with snow accumulation, according to State Patrol from Colorado.

The highway was closed from C-470, near Morrison, to Silverthorne. All traffic was being diverted to C-470 due to the closure. The highway was later closed from Limon to Burlington, in eastern Colorado, due to blizzard conditions.

Road conditions were worsening across the metropolitan area, particularly on the west side of Jefferson County and at the foot of the mountains. Heavy snow was falling and was expected to fall overnight.

Although there was not much snow accumulated on Saturday, the colder temperatures after sunset caused more and more snow to stick to the roads.

I-70 was just one of several major closings in Front Range.

US 6 was closed through Clear Creek Canyon and Interstate 25 was closed between Wellington and the Wyoming border. In Wyoming, Interstate 80 was closed from Cheyenne to Rock Springs.

Although there was a snow lull in much of the metropolitan area on Saturday night, heavy snow is expected to return to the area after 10 pm.
