The latest recall covers some models from the year 2016 to 2018, and additional 2020 to 2021, Hyundai Tucson SUVs. Vehicles have computers with an anti-lock brake system that can malfunction internally and cause a short circuit. This can cause a fire.

Tucsons equipped with Hyundai’s Smart Cruise Control feature are not being retracted.

Hyundai said on Friday that the recall comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the problem. The company said it was aware of a dozen fires, but no injuries related to the collected vehicles.

Owners will be notified in late February to take their SUVs to a dealership, which will replace a fuse in the computer. They can enter their vehicle identification number at http: www.hyundaiUSA.com/recalls to see if their vehicles have been affected.

In September, the South Korean automaker recalled about 180,000 Tucson SUVs in the U.S. from 2019 to 2021 to fix the same problem. The company claims that corrosion can short-circuit defective anti-lock brake circuit boards, which can cause a fire even with the engines turned off.
