Nurse Hid steals elderly couple after fake Covid vaccination

A nurse, who sedated an elderly couple in Hyderabad with a fake Covid vaccine and stole 80 grams of gold jewelry from them, was arrested, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred in Lalitha Nagar under the confines of the Rachakonda police commissioner Meerpet police station on Saturday.

Defendant Anusha was arrested on Sunday, just hours after the couple filed a police complaint.

K. Laxman (80), a retired civil servant and his wife Kasturi (70) complained to the police on Saturday night that the nurse tricked them in the name of the Covid vaccine.

Anusha, who is taking a midwife nursing assistant (ANM) course at a private college and was previously a tenant near Laxman’s home, approached the couple with an offer to provide them with doses of Covid vaccine. When they agreed to take it, she went to their house on Saturday at 3 pm and administered a dose to everyone in Laxman and Kasturi.

“Before giving the jab, she told us that we would be sleepy for a while. We don’t know what happened after that, but when we woke up late at night, we found out that we were robbed,” said Kasturi.

Kasturi realized that his mangalsutra, gold ring, earrings and toe rings, all weighing about eight fools, were missing.

The couple immediately approached the Meerpet police station and filed a complaint. The police resumed the investigation and resolved the case with Anusha’s arrest.

Police investigations revealed that Anusha and her husband knew the victims because they lived on rent in their neighborhood. The young couple later moved to another area.

The accused and her husband are said to be facing financial problems and she decided to target the elderly couple, as they lived alone.

The police advised people not to believe those who promise to provide Covid’s vaccine, as the vaccine is not available on the open market and only health officials are authorized to administer the vaccine. At this stage, the vaccine is being administered only to health professionals and frontline employees in various departments dealing with the pandemic.
