Many people expected the Patriots to be behind the tight ends in the free agent market, but few predicted that they would hire the two guys at the top of most lists.

Hunter Henry is one of those tight end and puts himself in the group that was surprised when the Patriots continued to chase him after making a deal with Jonnu Smith. Henry told reporters on Monday that he did not expect to receive that call, but is eager to see what will happen when the two enter the field together.

“It’s just kind of happened, ”Henry said, through Henry McKenna of USAToday.com. “I didn’t think this was going to happen. . . . We can complement each other in a legal way. Obviously, the Patriots are very successful with tight ends, and I’m very excited to hopefully add to that. “

After a bad offensive season in 2020, Henry will have plenty of company when it comes to excitement about what the offseason moves will mean for the results on the pitch in New England next season.
