Hunter accused of murder in killing of teenager shot while watching sunset with his girlfriend

A hunter who fatally shot a teenager who apparently mistook for an animal in a state park was charged with murder and gun counting, officials said. The police said Jason Kutt was shot and killed while watching the sunset with his girlfriend in a park on October 24th.

CBS Philadelphia reports that Kennminster Troy Heller, 52, of Warminster, made his first appearance in court on Wednesday and was arrested after the judge denied bail. It is not known whether he hired a lawyer.

The shooting took place on October 24 at Nockamixon State Park, which lies between the cities of Bedminster and Haycock.

Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said he believed Heller thought he was shooting an animal and did not intentionally shoot West Rockhill’s 18-year-old Kutt. The victim was shot once in the back of the head while sitting with his girlfriend by the lake in the park and died two days later.

Kutt’s girlfriend reported seeing a hunter dressed in a bright orange hunting suit leaving the area at the time. Investigators say the suspect and the victim did not know each other.

Heller is currently held in Bucks County prison without bail.
