Disney’s Hulu is courting the university audience with a new offer: the streamer has launched a special reduced rate plan for US college students, priced at $ 1.99 a month.
Starting on Monday (January 11), eligible students over the age of 18 can enroll in the agreement and watch Hulu’s complete library of films and TV shows (with ads) for $ 2 a month. This represents a 67% discount on the regular price of $ 5.99.
According to Hulu, student accounts provide access to two simultaneous streams, as well as regular Hulu levels.
Hulu is betting that the fee-reduction plan for college students will produce incremental subscriber gains as it continues to gain momentum under Disney’s wing. In addition, the hope is that the promotion will develop a younger Hulu customer base – who will maintain the service long after they graduate. On Disney’s Investor Day in December, the media company said Hulu had 38.8 million subscribers on December 2, including more than 4.1 million live TV customers. Hulu is partnering with verification firm SheerID, based in Portland, Oregon, to confirm that subscribers are eligible for the special deal. According to SheerID, users submit information on a form and the company compares this with “selected official data sources” to determine whether they qualify for a particular promotion.
Hulu’s ad-supported plan offers unlimited, on-demand access to thousands of TV shows and movies, including “Keeping up with the Kardashians”, “The Bachelor”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia “and” Family man. ” The original service series includes “Pen15,” “Little Fires Everywhere”, “Ramy”, “Animaniacs” and “Solar Opposites”.
