Huawei’s foldable Mate X2 adopts Samsung’s dual screen design

Huawei announced the Mate X2, its first all-new foldable device since the 2019 Mate X. The new phone has received a radical redesign compared to the original device, with a large screen that unfolds from inside the device instead of from the side. out . To use the folded phone, the Huawei Mate X2 has a second screen on the outside, similar to Samsung’s approach with the Galaxy Fold series. Phone images were leaked minutes before its official announcement by Evan Blass in Voice.

As a Huawei device, Mate X2 will be released without support for Google applications or services, which is likely to severely limit its appeal outside of China. According to the Huawei website, the phone will run on EMUI 11.0 based on Android 10. However, during its live broadcast, the company said it plans to make Mate X2 among the first phones to be upgraded to its own operating system. , HarmonyOS, starting in April.

The Mate X2’s internal screen measures 8 inches with a resolution of 2480 x 2200, while the external screen is 6.45 inches in size with a resolution of 2700 x 1160. Both are OLED and have refresh rates up to 90Hz. They are also slightly larger than the internal 7.6-inch screen and the external 6.2-inch screens found on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2. Internally, the phone is powered by the company’s Kirin 9000 chip, the processor that debuted on its Mate 40 Pro last year. It is combined with 8 GB of RAM and a battery with a nominal capacity of 4,400mAh that can be charged quickly up to 55W.

Mate X2 is available in four colors.

There are four cameras on the back of the phone. A 50-megapixel wide-angle, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, a 12-megapixel telephoto with a 3x optical zoom and an 8-megapixel “SuperZoom” camera with a 10x optical zoom. The selfie camera on the outside of the phone has a resolution of 16 megapixels and there does not appear to be a selfie camera inside or around the folding internal screen.

The Mate X2 is technically the third phone in Huawei’s foldable line. Last year, it launched Mate XS, an updated version of the original Mate X that featured a more durable display and faster Kirin 990 processor.

Huawei says the Mate X2 will be available in China with 256 GB of internal storage for ¥ 17,999 (about $ 2,785) or ¥ 18,999 (about $ 2,940) with 512 GB of storage. Available colors include blue, pink, black and white. It will be available for purchase in China from February 25, but it is unclear when the phone could be launched outside the country.
