HSCO identifies Sgt. Watson as an off-duty police officer killed in a motorcycle accident in Pearland

A sergeant in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office who was out of service was killed in an accident on Saturday afternoon in Pearland, officials said. The incident occurred around 1:15 pm near Shadow Creek Parkway and Kinsley Drive.

HCSO identified the sergeant. Bruce Watson, a 20-year veteran of the department, who had just finished a day off leading a funeral procession and was returning home. He later died of his injuries at the Hermann Memorial Hospital.

The sergeant was riding a motorcycle when he was involved in an SUV accident. The driver stopped after the accident and showed no signs of drugs or intoxication, according to the Pearland Police Department.

The investigators said it appears to be an accident, while they are still investigating how the accident occurred.

At the moment, investigators are not sure who was to blame.

“The entire Sheriff’s Office family is mourning the sudden loss of our longtime brother,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “Sgt. Watson served his community with honor and distinction, and we ask everyone to raise their families in prayer during this difficult time. “

Watson, 51, was assigned to the Patrol Support Services Department, working the night shift at the Emergency Dispatch Center. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in March 2000 and previously served as Detention Sergeant at Harris County Jail, patrol field training officer and instructor at the training academy. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

Watson leaves his wife, a Houston Police Department officer, and their three adult sons, two daughters and a son. Preparations for Watson’s funeral are pending.

The Pearland Police Department is working on the site.
