Carson Wentz’s future was the subject of several questions to Eagles general manager Howie Roseman at Monday’s press conference.
Sunday brought another piece of news that Wentz wants to leave after being booked for Jalen Hurts this season, but it was also announced that the team’s plan is to take a break and let things calm down before making any decisions. Roseman suggested that it was the case on Monday.
He said the team has “to go back and look at it with new eyes” because things are very “raw” right after the end of the 4-11-1 season.
“As far as Carson is concerned, I don’t think it’s a secret that we moved to him because of what we thought of him as a person, as a player. We gave him that extension because of the same things. And then, when you have players like that, they’re like fingers in your hand. You can’t even imagine that they are not part of you; that they are not here. That’s how we feel about Carson. “
Although Roseman’s imagination does not extend to a future without Wentz, he did not rule out the possibility that things will be this way when asked about an exchange.
“We are not talking about it right now,” said Roseman. “We are talking about a guy who is immensely talented, has a great work ethic and is doing what we can to put him in the best possible situation to succeed.”
Roseman has often said that the Eagles’ lack of success did not fall entirely on one person, but it is clear that defining the plan for Wentz will have a lot to do with defining the 2021 plan for the Eagles as a whole.
