There are many video call apps to choose from, but Google Duo can be the simplest. It works with iPhone, iPad and Android devices, and even on the web in a browser. We will show how it works in the latter.
Using Google Duo on the web is simple. All you need to do is sign in with the same credentials (including the phone number) that you used to create your Duo account. You don’t need to download any apps.
First, visit duo.google.com in a web browser, such as Chrome.
If you are not signed in to your Google account, click on “Try Duo for the Web”.
After logging in, you will be asked to verify your phone number. Make sure that the number shown corresponds to your account and click “Next”.
Google will send a text message to your phone with a verification code. Enter this number to confirm your account. Click “Resend SMS” or “Call me” if you don’t receive the message.
Depending on which browser you are using, Google Duo may request permission to send you notifications about incoming calls. Click on “Got it” if you see this message and want to activate it.
Click “Allow” in the pop-up requesting permission to “Show notifications”.
Now that you’re connected, you can use Duo to make or receive calls. Click “Start a call” to search for someone by phone number or email. Select “Create a group link” to initiate a group call.
During a video call, you’ll see a toolbar at the top with the following icons:
- Microphone: Click here to mute your microphone.
- Video camera: Click here to turn off the camera for an audio-only call.
- Wide / portrait modes: Click here to switch between landscape and portrait video modes.
- Full screen mode: Click here to make the video call full screen.
- Settings: Click here to select the microphone and camera you want to use.
Click “End call” at the bottom to leave a call.
Now, you’re ready to use Google Duo on the web! It is a convenient way to use one of the best video call services available, without having to download another application.
