How to stream PS5 and Xbox Series X / S games to all your devices

Is someone in your home monopolizing the big screen TV? Would you like to play in a different room without dragging your console? If you managed to get your hands on one PlayStation 5, a Xbox Series X, or one Xbox Series S, you may broadcast games from these consoles to other devices on the same wi-fi network.

Although you don’t need a particularly fast wi-fi signal flying through your home for this to work, you do need a stable one to get the best results. If possible, consider connecting your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X / S directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. Turning off other devices using wi-fi will also help. PlayStation 5

Sony offers an official feature to allow you to Stream in PS5 for From others devices called Remote playback. Before you begin, you must enable the feature on your console. Open the System menu Definitions, then choose Remote Play and turn on the Enable Remote Play light switch. Next go to Energy saving and Features available in sleep modeand makcertainly Stay connected to the Internet and Enable Connect PS5 from the network are turned on, as this means that you can still activate the console from another device.

With these settings sorted, what you need next is Sony’s Remote Play application for your choice of operating system. Works on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so you can streamo Any phone, tablet, laptop or desktop with one of these operating systems installed, as long as you are on the same local Wi-Fi network as your real PlayStation 5.

For Windows and macOS, you will also need a DualSense or DualShock controller to use with the device of your choice, so you need to buy an extra or borrow one from your PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 console. For Windows computers, the controller must be connected directly via USB, but Macs can use controllers via Bluetooth or via direct connection (choose Bluetooth in System Preferences to pair a wireless controller).

On your cell phone, you can connect a PS controller for your game (recommended) or try using your phone’s touch screen controls (not recommended). Controllers can be paired on Android by choosing Connected devices in Settings and on iOS choosing Bluetooth in Settings.

Whichever device you are installing the Remote Play app on, you will be prompted to log in to your PSN account. The program should be able to automatically detect the PlayStation 5 on your local network, assuming you have configured it correctly, and after a few seconds the PS5 screen will appear inside the Remote Play software. You can take control using the PlayStation controller and operate the PS5 as if you are sitting in front of it.

Click the gear icon on the opening splash screen, then Video quality for remote playback to define the quality at which the PS5 transmits video to your computer or mobile device – reducing this quality can help if you are having trouble getting a stable connection. Other options are available during streaming in mobile applications, such as whether or not to always show the controller on the screen.

Xbox Series X / S

Microsoft hasn’t yet enabled local streaming from an Xbox Series X or Series S console to a Windows computer – which is pretty strange, considering it’s so simple on older Xbox One consoles. The functionality is in development, but is not available at the time of writing, and although rumors of an update are starting to gain traction, there is no indication of a release date at this time.

For now, it’s the same story for streaming from a new Xbox console to a Mac computer. This wasn’t natively supported on Xbox One X and Xbox One S, but you could use a third-party tool like OneCast to get the job done – this approach will not work on Xbox Series X and Series S for now.

Until local streaming support for computers arrives fully formed and fully functional from Microsoft, you’ll have to settle for streaming to phones and tablets. On your Xbox, open Settings and choose Devices and connections and Remote resources, and turn on the Enable remote features option.

Next, you need the official Xbox app to Android or iOS. After going through the initial signalin the setup process, tap the connect button in the upper right corner (to the left of the bell icon) and then Set up a console and follow the instructions on the screen (unless you’ve gone through this process before).

Within the Xbox app, you can tap the library button (the second from the left at the bottom) and then Consoles. Choose your Xbox, then choose Remote play on this device. Assuming your Xbox is on and online, you will be connected after a few seconds and you should see the Xbox screen appear on your phone or tablet.

You will also need to connect a gamepad of your choice to your mobile device to really bypass the Xbox interface. Official Xbox controllers will do just fine, or you can choose any of the third partiesparty alternatives that will work with your phone or tablet. Bluetooth accessories can be added via Connected devices in Android settings or via Bluetooth in Settings on iOS.
