If you’re the type of Windows 10 user who likes to spice things up, why not move the taskbar to a new location – like the top of the screen? Once there, it works exactly as you expect, including the Start menu. It is also a great party trick. Here’s how to do it.
First, right-click on the taskbar and uncheck “Lock the taskbar” from the menu that appears. This allows you to move the taskbar to a new location.
Once the taskbar is unlocked, click on the taskbar and drag it to the top of the screen, then release the mouse or trackpad button.
As soon as you release, the taskbar will be happy for as long as you want, continually defying gravity.
You will notice that, since the taskbar is at the top of the screen, it works exactly as it did when it was at the bottom, just in a different orientation. You can even open the Start menu, and it will appear from top to bottom.
While you’re at it, feel free to experiment with other taskbar locations – like a vertical orientation on the left or right side of the screen. In addition, few people know this, but you can change the height of the taskbar while it is unlocked.
When you’re done, you may want to lock the taskbar in place so you don’t accidentally move it. Just right-click on the taskbar and place a check mark next to “Lock the taskbar” in the pop-up menu. Have fun customizing Windows!
