If you’re thinking of quitting WhatsApp—for any reason—One of the critical points it may be the difficulty of moving your WhatsApp conversations to another service. People built some smart Tools to help you accomplish that, but Telegram is launching an official import tool to make the transition incredibly easy.

To begin, install Telegram on the device with which you mainly use WhatsApp. Set up or connect to a Telegram account and go back to WhatsApp. You will now need to export your WhatsApp conversations—The arduous process that requires you to open each one, then tap the three dots icon, tap Moreand touch Export chat.

When asked where you want to save your chats, be sure to select the Telegram app. When doing this, you will be asked to choose a group to import the conversation into Telegram. You can also create a new group, if you prefer. Then relax and wait while Telegram processes your WhatsApp chats.

The only peculiarity of the Telegram import feature is that it cannot assign your WhatsApp chats to the exact date they occurred. Instead, your conversations and media files will appear on Telegram as having been sent on date you imported them. Attached to each item, however, there will be a noting timestamp the time and date message or media was originally sent on WhatsApp.

It’s a little clumsy solution but this is the exchange you will have to make in the exChange to such an easy way to migrate your WhatsApp conversations to Telegram. In fact, Telegram also notes you can use this same process to move your Line and KakaoTalk chats as well. I didn’t hear any of those chat services, but if you use them, you now have an easy way to switch, if you wish.

As part of the update that adds this export / import functionality, Telegram also allows its users to delete secret chats, groups they have created and their call history for both sides of the conversation. In fact, that’s it ‘deletion capability‘that makes Telegram a little stronger for WhatsApp privacy, since the latter only offers a window of an hour or more to delete something you’ve sent to a group or chat (and remove it from the recipient devices as well).
