Photo editing on Android smartphones and tablets has come a long way over the years. There are many powerful built-in tools at your disposal. However, one thing always seems to be left out: the ability to simply flip a photo.
Cropping and rotating are basic items in almost all editing applications on Android, but what if you just want to flip an image? Some camera applications take mirrored photos with the front camera. It looks like it would be a basic feature, but it is not.
For example, Google Photos is one of the most popular photo apps on Android. The editing tools allow you to crop, rotate and even adjust the perspective, but inversion is nowhere.

There are many apps on the Google Play Store that aim to fix this problem, but most of them are full of ads. The best solution is a Google application called “Snapseed”. This is a powerful photo editing app, but we just need the flip tool.
First, download Snapseed from the Play Store on your Android device.
Then open the application and tap on the big “+” button located in the center of the screen.
The first time you use the app, you will be asked to grant permission to access the media on your device. Tap “Allow” to continue.
Touch the “+” button again and choose the image you want to flip.
With the image open in the editor, switch to the “Tools” tab on the bottom bar.
A lot of photo editing tools will appear. What we want is “Spin”.
Now tap the flip icon on the bottom bar.
The image will now be flipped horizontally.
If you want to rotate it vertically instead, you can use the rotate button together with the rotate button.
When you’re done, tap the checkmark button in the lower right corner.
To save the inverted image, select “Export” on the bottom bar.
There are several options for saving the image:
- Save will simply create a copy of the original image.
- Use Export if you want some additional options after saving.
- Export as will allow you to save the copy to a specific folder.
- You can also To share directly to an application or contacts.
That’s all there is to do! You now have a mirror image. That simple.
