How to enable new closed captions for Zoom’s live transcripts for your meeting

Zoom is bringing its live transcription feature to free users. Paid users had access to service for a while, but free users soon too has the option to add automated, powered by closed AIsubtitling for your Encounters.

Live transcription will be released for all accounts this fall, but you can request early access through this request form. Zoom multilingual hosts, note: at launch, the only recognizes english.

We’re not sure how long it will take for early access to be granted, but see how to enable Zoom Live Transcription once it’s available to you.:

  1. Sign in to Zoom site.
  2. Go for Settings> Meeting.
  3. Activate “Subtitle.” Observation: If you see the feature but are unable to activate it, you may need to request permission from the Zoom group or the account administrator. You will find more information on the Zoom support page.
  4. Turn on “Enable the live transcription service to show the transcript on the side panel of the meeting.”

How to enable Live Transcription during a meeting you are organizing

  1. Make sure Live Transcription is enabled using the steps above
  2. Open the zoom and begin a new meeting or join a.
  3. Click “Subtitle” or “Live transcript” from the call controls.
  4. Select “Enable auto-transcription”

Once Live Transcription is enabled, continue your call as normal. The application will take care of all subtitles for you.

The application will automatically recognize speech and type it on the screen, but there is a chance that there are some errors. According Zoom support page, one Ii transcriptaccuracy of may be affected by:

  • Background noise
  • Volume and clarity of the speaker’s voice
  • Proficiency of the speaker in the English language
  • Lexicons and dialects specific to a geography or community

If the live transcript is not working, Zoom recommends typing manual captions for your Zoom meeting or break room in real time.

Google Meet also works as a contingency plan if Zoom’s auto-generation captions are not available to you. Meet’s automatic captions are easy to connect and recognize English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. If all else fails, you can use third party tools like Description or even one paid transcription service to add captions to a previously recorded meeting.
