How to download music and podcasts from Spotify on mobile, desktop and web

Spotify is easy to overlook – until slow streaming speeds or a lack of Internet connection prevent you from listening to some music or updating your favorite podcast. Fortunately, Spotify now allows you for download music and podcasts to your smartphone or computer so you can keep listening even when you’re offline. ºand option comes in handy if you are directed to a long journey by areas with irregular mobile service. Listening to downloaded content instead of streaming it from Spotify’s servers also helps to reduce monthly data usage.

You can download the content in the Spotify apps for Android, iOS, Mac and Windows or from the Spotify web player, but the download privileges differ between account types:

  • Spotify Premium users can download complete playlists and podcast episodes.
  • Free users can download podcasts.

Unfortunately, Spotify does not allow you to download all albums or even specifics tracks; yYou will need to save the songs you want to download to a playlist first. That said, yYou can download as many playlists and podcasts as your device’s storage allows.

The downloaded content will stay in your Spotify offline library for as long as you like, but you will need to connect to the Spotify server at least once every 30 days to check your account status. Otherwise, your access to downloaded music will expire.

How to download audio content from Spotify

On the desktop (Mac, Windows, web)

  1. Open the Spotify desktop application, or go to open.spotify.com.
  2. Log in and make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
  3. To download music: Open a playlist and switch the “Download” on.s button
  4. To download a podcast: Click the down arrow button next to the episode name.
  5. Wait for the download (s) to complete. The downloaded content is saved to your library and will show a green arrow.

Mobile (Android, iOS)

  1. Open the Spotify app and make sure you’re connected to wifi or mobile data (Observation: DMobile download will affect your mobile plan data limits.)
  2. Open a playlist or podcast you want to download.

  5. Downloaded songs and podcasts will display a green checkmark. You can access all offline content from “Your Library” tab.
