Spam calls can be the worst thing about carrying a phone in your pocket every day. Fortunately, there are tools to help with that. We’ll show you how to set up “Verified calls” on your Android phone using one of Google’s own apps.

Verified calls is a feature found in the “Phone by Google” application. Google works with companies to verify the caller’s identity, show the reason for the call, and even display logos. The Google Phone app can be installed on most Android devices (if not already pre-installed), including Samsung devices.

After installing the Phone by Google app, it will need to be set as the default phone app. If you missed the request to do this when opening the app for the first time, you can also do it manually. The process is slightly different depending on the phone, but it will look something like Settings> Applications> Default applications> Phone.

set default phone

With that resolved, we will activate Verified Calls. Open Phone by Google and tap the three dot menu icon in the upper right corner.

touch the menu icon

Select “Settings” from the menu.

select settings

In the Settings menu, tap “Call and spam screen”. It can also be called “Caller ID and spam”.

open spam settings

Then, change the button to “Verified calls”.

enable verified calls

This will take you to a screen asking you to add your phone number to your Google account. This is necessary to use verified calls. Touch “Yes, I accept” if you agree to this permission.

You will be taken back to the previous screen and the “Verified calls” toggle button will be activated. Here is an example of the difference between a normal call and a verified call.

That’s all there is to do! You will get much more information on the screen for these verified calls, which will help you distinguish between spam calls and actual calls.
