How to automatically restart apps when you sign in to Windows 10

Sometimes you are in the middle of a productive session on Windows 10, but you need to log out or restart your machine. Normally, it may be necessary to restart the session. But with a quick change in Settings, Windows can automatically remember and reopen your non-legacy applications when you log in again. See how to set it up.

First, open Windows Settings. To do this, click on the Start menu and select the small gear icon or press Windows + i on the keyboard.

The next time you log out and log in again, what Microsoft calls “restartable applications” will be reloaded automatically. It is up to application developers to make their applications restartable, so this may not work with all applications. However, it does include modern Windows 10 apps written for the UWP platform – which includes all apps provided on the Microsoft Store – as well as modern browsers.

Legacy applications (using the Win32 API) written for Windows versions prior to Windows 8 cannot be restarted automatically. Still, it is very useful!
