George Lucas planned to use Darth Talon in his Star Wars sequences, but her path to entering the official Star Wars canon could come through Disney +.
George Lucas had plans to make Darth Talon part of the Star Wars canon with his sequential trilogy, but Disney + may be the key to introducing Darth Maul’s apprentice to the Expanded Universe. Following Lucas’s decision to sell Lucasfilm to Disney, Star Wars The creator continued to provoke his sequential trilogy. The general plan has changed many times over the years, but he confirmed that there was a point where Lucas planned to introduce Darth Talon in his Star Wars: Episode VII.
Darth Talon was originally a creation of the Expanded Universe. Lethan Twi’lek was introduced to a story set decades after the original trilogy, where she was a powerful Sith who seduced Cade Skywalker, Luke Skywalker’s distant descendant, into the dark side. Lucas’s plans for Talon, however, would have made her the apprentice of a revived Darth Maul. Further exploration of Maul’s history in canonical properties such as Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels included some examples of Maul looking for his own apprentice. He tried to train Savage Opress, but the Emperor killed him. Maul later tried to bring Ezra Bridger to the dark side, but he rejected the temptation.
Since most of Darth Maul’s story and all of his attempts to find an apprentice have gone on TV, Disney + could be the place where you can bring Darth Talon into the canon as well. With the limited amount of information about the next Star Wars movies, there doesn’t seem to be a place for Darth Talon there. But Lucasfilm announced almost a dozen Star Wars ongoing programs for Disney +. Not everyone would be the right place to bring Darth Talon to life, but there are a number of options worth exploring.
An intriguing possibility is that Darth Talon could be introduced in Obi wan Kenobi. It has been confirmed that the show will feature Jedi hunters, in addition to Hayden Christensen’s return as Darth Vader. Darth Talon could easily be introduced as one of those Jedi hunters. She could even potentially be revealed to be another of Vader’s Inquisitors. This option would not need to maintain Talon’s ties to Maul to make it work either. However, if Obi wan Kenobi wants to introduce Darth Talon and maintain the connection with Maul that Lucas planned, that is still possible. Perhaps rumors are spreading across the galaxy that Maul’s secret apprentice is circulating around. This could not only pique Obi-Wan’s interests, but also Darth Vader, which could allow the program to have ex-friends unconsciously looking for the same thing.
Another option for Darth Talon to join Star Wars canon can be through the Ahsoka Series. Rosario Dawson’s appearance as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian the 2nd season presents an adventure that happens after Star Wars Rebels. The animated show brought Maul’s story to a definite end, but Talon may still be there. Ahsoka is as connected to Maul’s story as anyone else in Star Wars. So, if someone is potentially going to face Darth Talon, it would make sense to be Ahsoka.
However, there is also no guarantee that Lucasfilm will maintain Lucas’s planned connection between Darth Talon and Maul if they take it to the official canon. She had nothing to do with Maul in the EU, and although that story showed Darth Talon’s story decades after the main story, Lucasfilm could do the opposite. Leslye Headland’s The acolyte series takes place 200 years before prequels and explores “powers emerging from the dark side” at the end of the High Republic era. Darth Talon may be linked to the growing presence of the dark side. And since the show has been described as female-centered, having a powerful female antagonist like Darth Talon could make sense. Clearly, there are several options for Darth Talon to join Star Wars canon, now it’s up to Lucasfilm to use it in some way.
