The Steelers made a difficult decision, and that can save them from making an even bigger one – the mother of all decisions, you can call it.

They split from offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner on Thursday, after three years in that role and 10 years working closely with Ben Roethlisberger. Now, the decision to bring Roethlisberger back or move on may no longer be a decision they have to make.

Roethlisberger can simply do this alone.

In fact, this can be part of the plan all the time. Who knows? It seems a little rushed, especially less than 24 hours after Mike Tomlin says he is not yet in the “flesh” of maintaining the coaching staff.

It is not known whether Roethlisberger wants to continue playing when he is 39, although, after the defeat at the end of the embarrassing season for the Browns, he sounded like he was going back to the year 18.
