Today is Kate Middleton’s 39th birthday. She’s one of the lucky people who didn’t have to celebrate her 2020 birthday in quarantine (it must have been cool), but this year, as the pandemic intensifies, she’s spending the day at Anmer Hall in Norfolk with her children and Prince William .
Although she saw her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, on her birthday last year, it probably won’t happen this year because of COVID-19. Fortunately, Kate doesn’t necessarily like a big birthday party, so a quiet party is probably more her style. Last year, her birthday was somewhat overshadowed by the announcement by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on January 8 that they were leaving their royal roles, although she probably also enjoyed the quiet family time.
“Catherine doesn’t like a lot of noise or big parties – being with William and the kids is her favorite way to spend her birthday,” said a friend Vanity Fairit’s Katie Nicholl.
The official Instagram of the Duke and Duchess posted a photo of Kate on her birthday. “Thank you for your kind wishes on the Duchess’ birthday,” says the post. “Birthdays have been very different in the last few months and our thoughts continue to be with all those who are working on the front lines at this extremely challenging time.”
The royalty, who are usually in public doing their philanthropic work, spent much of last year in confinement with the children. This summer, they took a vacation with the local family on the Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall.
“William and Kate were cycling, laughing,” a local source told the magazine about the recent trip from Cambridge. “They looked so happy enjoying the weather.” Another source said, “They decided to make a quick escape before the kids got back to school. They were eager to support our travel industry.”
