How Covid-19 caused a global shortage of semiconductors and computer chips

It is no exaggeration to say that semiconductors drive the modern world.

They are not only a key component of almost every electronic device we buy and use, but they also supply the factories that manufacture the electronic devices we buy and use. And now, there are not enough of them being made.

To find a long-term solution, President Joe Biden just ordered specialists in economics and national security to look for gaps in the semiconductor supply chain in the United States. They want to see how the United States has become dependent on other countries for semiconductor manufacturing.

In the short term, however, semiconductor company CEOs and analysts say the chip shortage will persist until 2021. See how the global scarcity of semiconductor chips has gotten so bad and what is being done to fix it.
