Coming to two full months of work, South Carolina Gamecocks trainer Shane Beamer is satisfied with the state of his first squad.
On National Signature Day, with four more candidates officially on the boat, Beamer finished another chapter on the 2021 recruitment cycle, but the book is not yet finished. There is room for at least one other signatory, and there are ways to refine the numbers if South Carolina wants to bring in more than one player before the 2021 season starts on September 4 against Eastern Illinois.
“We still have the flexibility to add some parts and people to the equation, moving forward if necessary,” said Beamer. “Obviously, the practice of spring will be great for us, to see where we are as a program (with) our people who are in the building and what we may need and have to attack here, moving forward in recruiting and immediately with some potential boys to add to the list this next season as well. “
Twelve players have already signed up and reported to the campus. Another four signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to give South Carolina a recruiting class of 20 men – another four signed in December.
“I think you’re always trying to improve your list and a lot of that, I think, will depend on spring training,” said Beamer. “You hope, as a program, to have no more friction and keep everyone in place, but the truth is, with college football now, it may not be the case, so we will consider situations as they arise. I think the main thing for us now is to develop this football team that we have.
“After the spring training, if we say, we have to add a little more depth in that position, more competition in that position, so we will certainly attack that. I think if only a fantastic football player, regardless of position, was interested in coming to South Carolina and we had the flexibility to pursue that too, but I couldn’t be more excited about the players on this program now and the way they are working.
“We have a very good group of young people who are hungry. Your work ethic is fantastic. I absolutely love coming to this building every day and being close to them, spending time with them. I can’t wait – there’s a lot of work to be done between now and spring training, but I’m really excited for the start of spring training, but even more excited to know what this environment looks like at this facility and how much I like coming to this one. building every day and being close to our players and I love the group we have and the way they’re working now.
“If this is the 2021 South Carolina football team and it doesn’t change at all, we don’t add anyone else, fantastic. We are going to play and I can’t wait to play ball with them. “
