Houston’s leading infectious disease specialist officially has his own sandwich

It is a fortuitous match that you would only find in Houston.

The internationally renowned infectious disease specialist, Dr. Peter Hotez, is buying a famous Po ‘Boys sandwich from Antone’s Original H-town named after him. The banh mi sandwich was affectionately named “The Dr. Hotez One World”.

“When I first ate it, it became my favorite sandwich,” Hotez told Chron. “[Chef Alex Padilla] I wanted something international to reflect my commitment to global health. So it was a perfect match. “

During the pandemic, Dr. Hotez did not hesitate to inform us about the variants of COVID-19 and the path of the virus. Now, this dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine is using his growing profile for a cause. Antone’s will donate 50 percent of the proceeds from Hotez’s Original H-town sandwich to support the Texas Children’s Hospital Vaccine Development Center.

Dr. Hotez One World Banh Mi offers marinated meat, cucumber, radish, pickled carrots and jalapenos. It is available at the three Antone stores in Houston for $ 8.95 from the beginning of March 1st to the end of May.

“As a great connoisseur and fan of sandwiches, I couldn’t be more excited,” said Hotez. “It’s kind of a joke in the family, but for dinner, often as a sandwich. I prefer a good sandwich to a gourmet meal.”

Antone’s “H-Town Originals” initiative asks Houston celebrities and chefs to prepare their own sandwiches to be sold at Antone’s to raise funds for causes and organizations.
