Houston winter storm: 4 children hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning after barbecue grill used for heating

Four children are among six people rushed to hospital on Monday on suspicion of carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Cy-Fair Fire Department.

The fire department said a family in an apartment complex on block 8500 on Easton Commons Drive allegedly tried to heat their unit with a charcoal grill.

The conditions of the people involved were not immediately disclosed.

In the wake of the incident, firefighters are reminding people of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, especially as the area plunges deeper into extremely cold temperatures.

“Remember to never heat your home with a barbecue or oven,” tweeted the fire department. “Remember never to turn on a generator or grill inside your home. They produce carbon monoxide, which is a deadly, colorless and odorless gas.”
