HOUSTON – Texans president Jamey Rootes resigned from the team, it was announced Wednesday.
“The past two decades have been an incredible blessing for me and my family and I have [McNair family] to thank you for that, “said Rootes in a statement.” It was an honor to serve you in this role for as long as I did. “
Rootes, who had been with the organization for more than 20 years, was “responsible for all the club’s business functions,” according to the team’s website.
“We sincerely appreciate Jamey’s multiple contributions to the Texans franchise during his tenure and we look forward to seeing him succeed in his new endeavors,” said Texans President and CEO Cal McNair in a statement. “We are now going to build on this foundation and move forward with a bold and unwavering commitment to winning championships, creating memorable experiences for our fans and doing great things for Houston.”
Texans are in the midst of an organizational reform that began when McNair fired technician and general manager Bill O’Brien in October. In the off season, he was replaced by general manager Nick Caserio and coach David Culley.
These changes in the organization came after quarterback Deshaun Watson said at the end of the season that Texans “don’t have a real base” and need a “complete cultural change”.
Although Watson requested an exchange, it appears that Texans are trying to resolve these concerns.
At his introductory press conference, Caserio was asked how Texas culture could be improved.
“We are looking to the future,” said Caserio. “We are trying to build. So we are going to take an inventory of what we have in place. We are going to spend time with the team, talk to them and find out how we want to build this. I was not here for this, but I have some understanding of what happened.
“But our responsibility is to try to move on, because every year everyone starts again from the same platform, right? We’re kind of starting over, right? We’re starting our process to build the Houston Texans 2021 list, and it’s this is what we’re going to do. “
Last week, Texans fired managing director of football Kevin Krajcovic, equipment manager Mike Parson and vice president of football operations Doug West.
