Houston Methodist to begin scheduling COVID-19 vaccinations for patients

COVID-19 vaccines will soon be available to a select group of patients at Houston Methodist Hospital, the provider announced on Thursday.

Soon, eligible people will be notified by text message to schedule vaccination appointments, according to the notice. The statement did not give an estimated time frame for when the patients’ first round of vaccination will take place.

Patients who have seen a primary care physician or specialist in the past two years will be eligible for the vaccine before the rest of the public, hospital officials said. The first group will include patients over 75 years old, followed by those between 65 and 74 years old.

The next group will be patients under the age of 65 who have at least one “class 1” condition, such as cancer, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease, obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease, solid organ transplantation and Type I or II diabetes mellitus. Patients in this group will also be eligible if they have at least two “class 2” conditions, such as asthma, cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, use of corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive agents.

For help with the application process, call 832-667-5694 from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
