Houston Methodist Announces $ 500 Bonus for Healthcare Professionals Receiving the COVID Vaccine

The Houston Methodist is offering a $ 500 bonus in March to healthcare professionals who are vaccinated against COVID-19, according to a letter from President and CEO Dr. Marc Boom.

Boom noted that the country is experiencing another outbreak of infections and is likely to face another one before vaccinations begin to suppress the virus. The next wave “is likely to be even more arduous for our organization, as we sustain this stress and this high level of focus for many, many months,” he said.

The bonuses, he said, are intended to give workers something to look forward to in the coming months. Eligibility will require workers to receive the COVID vaccination, which Boom said fulfills “our obligation as health professionals to lead the community”.

Vaccination is not mandatory for employees, but it will be in the future, he said. He said the Houston Methodist recognizes “the vital importance of all of us being vaccinated to protect our patients, our community, ourselves and our family and friends”.

He said more discussions are underway about a small number of employees who cannot safely receive the vaccine.

Meanwhile, Boom said the hospital is working to vaccinate its most vulnerable patients. Infusion sites have also been configured to provide antibody therapy.
