Democrats on the House Education and Work Committee approved a $ 15 federal minimum wage proposal included in President Biden’s coronavirus relief package in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
“It’s a submission, $ 15 #MinimumWage passes the [Education and Labor] committee after more than 13 hours of debate, “wrote committee member Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. Twitter around 4:30 am on Wednesday.
Raising the federal minimum wage from $ 7.25 to $ 15 an hour by 2025 would cut jobs by 1.4 million, but lift about 900,000 Americans out of poverty, according to a study released Monday by the Budget Office. Congress.

House Republicans expressed their dissatisfaction with the committee’s action on Wednesday.
“Once again, Democrats are ignoring vulnerable and hard-working Americans, preferring to favor the special interests of the left and those who support their radical agenda,” said Representative Virginia Foxx, RN.C., in a statement. “Forcing children to miss out on high-quality face-to-face education while selecting schools that receive aid and advocating a $ 15 national minimum wage increase that destroys jobs is hardly a ‘bold relief’.”
Foxx also criticized Democrats on the committee for voting against Republicans’ “common sense amendments”, including an amendment to block funding for higher education institutions linked to the Chinese government.
“At 3 am, House Democrats voted against my amendment banning funds for higher education institutions partnering with the Chinese Communist Party,” wrote the rep. Elise Stefanik, RN.Y., in Twitter on Wednesday.
The House of Representatives on Friday passed an updated budget resolution sent by the Senate that paves the way for Democrats to pass Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package without the support of the Republican Party.

The move unlocked the process for lawmakers to draft a final coronavirus aid bill under budgetary reconciliation rules that would allow Democrats to avoid Republican Party obstruction and pass major stimulus legislation on their own, as long as their convention remains united.
