Hot Tuesday ends with light rain

Happy World Weather Day!

It was on this date, in 1950, that the World Meteorological Organization developed as a specialized agency within the United Nations. WMO makes a world of good, such as efforts to reduce natural disasters through better warning systems, standardization of equipment and international meteorological observations and, of course, research on climate change.

Several years ago, I was privileged to visit the WMO headquarters in Geneva and interview the Secretary General in his office, and it is incredible what the WMO has accomplished in the past seven decades.

A little closer to home, although we will have more clouds on Tuesday than we have seen in the last three days combined, we will still have at least partial sun at times, and the unusually hot air mass is still with us. As such, today’s highs will reach the mid-60s. However, we will have a southeast wind of 8 to 13 mph and, as you folks on the east side, you know, this early spring breeze keeps you much cooler coming of the cold waters of the Great Lakes.

Tuesday sunrise is at 7:31 am. The sunset is at 19:49.

On Tuesday night, the sky will be overcast, with scattered showers developing. The amount of rain will be light and will not affect the moderate drought and abnormally dry conditions that are occurring in much of southeastern Michigan (Metro Airport has received just 0.03 inches of rain so far this month). The lows will be close to 50 degrees, which is our HIGH average at this time of year! The southeast wind continues, from 5 to 10 mph.

Sparse rain will end on Wednesday morning and then the sky will be partly cloudy and windy. A scattered rain or storm cannot be entirely ruled out north of the M-59 and west of the I-75, but most of us are expected to remain dry on Wednesday afternoon. The maximums will be close to 70 degrees.

The weather will be partly cloudy on Wednesday night, with lows in the mid-1940s.

On Thursday, it becomes cloudy with rain in the late afternoon. The highs will be in their 60s.

Rain reigns Thursday night – this will be the good rain we desperately need, with an inch of water as possible. The minimums will be in their 40s.

The rain ends on Friday afternoon and it will be very windy. The highs will be in their 50s.

The sky will be clear most of Friday night, with lows in the mid-30s.

It will be partly cloudy to start on Saturday, then the sky will become mostly cloudy. There is a small chance of a bath at the end of Saturday. The highs will be in their 50s.

The rains probably occur on Saturday night until at least the first half of Sunday, with highs close to 50 degrees.
