Hot pockets are collected due to possible contamination of glass and plastic

Nestlé Prepared Foods has released a recall of its pockets of pepperoni about the potential for contamination by “foreign materials”, announced the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The company is recalling the popular product over reports that there are rogue pieces of plastic and glass in some hot spots.

FSIS received four reports from customers claiming to find the materials in their warm pockets, leading to the recall of approximately 762,615 pounds of items not ready to eat.

So far, only one “minor injury” has been reported related to contamination, but FSIS is encouraging consumers who have purchased the product to be careful and avoid consumption.

“This product must be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” wrote FSIS.

The products in question were produced between November 13, 2020 and November 16, 2020, and were shipped to retailers across the country, says FSIS.

Consumers are advised to look for hot pockets with the label “Nestlé HOT POCKETS SANDWICHES OF THE BRAND: PREMIUM PEPPERONI MADE WITH PIG, CHICKEN AND PIZZA BUTTERY CRUST”, with a best used before February 2022.

FSIS has classified contaminated hot pockets as a “high risk” Class I problem and recommends consumers to seek medical attention if they come into contact with the product.

Nestlé Prepared Foods, which acquired Hot Pockets in 2002, could not be reached for comment.
