Host of ‘Saturday Night Live’ Regé-Jean Page Channels his character ‘Bridgerton’ in the opening monologue – Deadline

Actor Regé-Jean Page made his debut as a presenter Saturday Night Live tonight and used his monologue to prove that “he’s just a normal guy” and nothing like his character Bridgerton, the sullen Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. He could have been successful had it not been for his latent interludes that included romantic lines and a close-up of him drinking wine.

Cast members Aidy Bryant and Ego Nwodim joined Page onstage, cajoling him as big fans of his character and the sassy Netflix series.

Asked by Page about their favorite parts of the show, Bryant and Nwodim recited the exact dates for all Simon and Daphne Bridgerton sex scenes.

Page assured the women that he looked nothing like the duke before serenading the crowd with a version of “The Righteous Brothers” Unchained Melody.

Chloe Fineman then came on stage in a costume much like Daphne Bridgerton, Page’s lover in Bridgerton.

How did Page continue to claim that people identify him with his Bridgerton character, he dropped the duke’s most famous phrase, “I burn for you,” to the public’s screams.

Page ended his monologue by thanking the fans and shouting “people who normally cannot see each other, but who can see themselves as romantic actresses on television”.
