Horrific video shows Bolivian college students falling to their deaths after a railroad collapse

At least seven university students in Bolivia died on Tuesday after a metal grid broke on the fourth floor of a university building, a video shows.

The tragedy took place at El Alto University, near the Bolivian capital of La Paz, Reuters reported.

A horrible video of the incident shows a crowd of students pushing and pushing. A metal grid gives way, causing several students to fall four floors below.

Some students can be seen hanging on their sides before being pulled to safety while the crowd disperses.

Health Minister Jayson Auza told reporters that “seven have died and five are in critical condition, some of them stabilized.”

Bolivia’s Special Crime Fighting Force opened an investigation. The crime unit says the victims’ ages ranged from 19 to 27.

Local media reported that the students were in the middle of a tense meeting – which had caused some physical altercations – at the university before the grid broke.
