Hokies land Vanderbilt grad transfer DB

Virginia Tech added a new piece to its defensive backfield with the addition of the Vanderbilt safety transfer Tae Daley.

Daley entered the NCAA Transfer Portal in September as an undergraduate transfer. He did not play in the 2020 season.

He was the third leading defender in 2019, starting nine games for the Commodores.

The 1.90 boy played me 23 games during his university career, starting with 17 of them.

A former three-star recruit from Northside High School in Georgia, Daley was named number 64 in general safety in the 2017 recruitment cycle.

Virginia Tech has done well to remove talent from the NCAA Transfer Portal since it was introduced in October 2015. The most notable entry transfer to Virginia Tech outside the portal from the beginning was the Kansas running back Khalil Herbert. Herbert ran for more than 1,000 yards during his only season in Blacksburg before entering the NFL’s 2021 Draft.

Other notable transfers that Virginia Tech has made in the last few cycles include the starting center Brock Hoffman (Carolina Costeira), Braxton Burmeister (Oregon), Raheem Blackshear (Rutgers), and Justus Reed (Youngstown State).

Daley will report to Virginia Tech in January.

With Virginia Tech losing initial security Divine Deablo for the NFL Draft, Daley has the opportunity to see immediate play time under the Defensive Coordinator Justin Hamilton.
