Hoda Kotb is all about the holidays. O Today with Hoda and Jenna the co-host recently detailed his family’s traditions, which included some expected activities, such as making cookies, wearing festive pajamas and making decorations.
But her fiance, Joel Schiffman, has a tradition that makes her laugh every year: he picks up the barbecue in slippers and shorts, no matter the weather.
“One thing will be certain: there will be a man in slippers in the snow, and it will be Joel,” she said, adding that the groom spends all day in the kitchen. “He loves to cook, and I don’t think he has a chance, but at Christmas time, he makes a great roast that is so good.”
And all these tasty flavors and aromas make the house cozy. “There is something about the house, it is that smell,” she said. “It’s full of the smell of delicious food and Joel has a bottle of wine.”

They also like to decorate everything. “We have our socks hanging from the chimney carefully, Joel likes to do that,” said Hoda. “We have a beautiful tree that we decorate.” Her daughters Haley Joy, 3, and Hope Catherine, 1, also make their own ornaments.
But a tradition that Joel does not seems to love? Wearing matching pajamas. “We all started the tradition of wearing the same Christmas pajamas, which I’m not sure Joel liked, but he plays along,” Hoda said with a laugh. “And each year they are different.”

Although they usually visit Hoda’s mother, Sameha, and her sister, Hala, personally, this year looked a little different due to the pandemic. “I am excited to be sitting together, even if it is virtually,” she said. “And I just realized how lucky we are to realize that we have this.”
Hoda added that they have also reduced the usual number of gifts this year. “I was telling Haley that we will have three gifts from Santa Claus, because I feel that this is a time when we should think more about giving … And we have been trying to remind ourselves and our children about it,” she explained. ” Christmas is not about all these things, it should be more about giving, generosity and kindness. ”
“So I feel that this year, all of us, each of us, children included, should be giving away free stuff,” she added. “Haley loves to donate things, so let’s keep this tradition alive.”
