Hilaria Baldwin responds to allegations that she falsified her Spanish heritage

Actor Alec Baldwin’s wife posted a long video on Instagram over the weekend after claiming she was faking her Spanish accent spread on Twitter.

“I saw online conversations questioning my identity and culture,” she wrote next to the video. “This is something I take very seriously, and for those who are asking – I will reiterate my story, as I have done many times before. I was born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain. My parents and siblings live in Spain and I chose to live here in the USA. We celebrate both cultures in our home – Alec and I are raising our bilingual children, just as I was raised. This is very important to me. I understand that my story is a little different, but it is mine, and I am very proud of it. “

Although the former dancer explains that she was born in Massachusetts, her manager’s online biography says she was born on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

In an April podcast interview, Baldwin says she didn’t move to the United States until she was 19, when she attended New York University.

Several individuals who claim to have gone to high school with the ex-dancer in Boston, turned to social media to challenge their earlier report.

“I went to school with her,” wrote one person. “She was perfectly cool and serious about ballroom dancing. Her name was indeed Hillary Hayward-Thomas and she didn’t have her current accent.”

Baldwin’s videos started surfacing on social media, one from a segment of the “Today” show in which she apparently forgets the English word for cucumber while speaking with an accent.

Her husband accessed his own Instagram to defend his wife saying the allegations were “ridiculous and” he considered the source. ”

CNN contacted representatives of the couple for comment.
