High-tech supermarket Amazon Fresh opens Thursday in East Long Beach • Long Beach Post News

Amazon’s latest foray into the food market, Amazon Fresh, will open at 7 am tomorrow, Thursday, March 18, at the site of former Haggen and Albertson grocery stores at Lakewood Plaza Marketplace on 6235 Spring St. in East Long Beach.

Councilwoman Stacy Mungo Flanigan, in whose district the new high-tech grocery store is located, participated in a preview on Wednesday.

“It was great to meet the team there and see how excited and excited they are,” she said, adding that she was able to “experiment with the cart”, referring to Amazon Fresh’s multifunctional Amazon Dash Cart, a smart shopping cart that allows users find items, track purchases and leave the store by skipping the checkout line. Buyers’ purchases are charged to your Amazon account. There is also the option of traditional check-out for those who are suspicious of the latest devices.

“At home, we just say, ‘Alexa, add grapes to the shopping list’ and when you’re ready to buy, your Amazon app tells you which aisle you’ll find your items in and sorts your list by location so you don’t have to zigzagging around the store looking for things, ”said Mungo Flanigan.

The online retail juggernaut currently operates 11 Amazon Fresh supermarkets in California and Illinois, but is expanding rapidly with plans to open more than two dozen stores across the country in the coming weeks and months, according to commercial publication Supermarket. News.

In addition to groceries, Amazon Fresh will also feature cabinets for Amazon deliveries, as well as a technology section selling Amazon products, including Fire TV Stick, Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets and Alexa accessories.
