Greenville schools will consider bringing young grades into classrooms for more days

Greenville County schools have changed their attendance plan to allow more students in classrooms, even when the spread of COVID-19 is high in the county.

The district is also considering bringing preschoolers into second grade and career center students back four or five days a week.

Superintendent Burke Royster said he asked nine primary school principals to investigate how they could bring younger students back to classrooms four or five days a week and maintain six feet of social distance. Students younger than the second grade would still not be required to wear masks.

DHEC reports 489 new cases, 28 deaths

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced on Wednesday 489 new confirmed cases and 43 new probable cases of the new coronavirus COVID-19, 28 additional confirmed deaths and 10 new probable deaths.

As of Wednesday, there were 131,428 confirmed cases, 2,694 probable cases, 2,968 confirmed deaths and 164 probable deaths.

Of the 3,635 test results reported to DHEC on Tuesday, 13.5% were positive for COVID-19.

United Community Bank in Carolinas reopening lobbies

United Community Bank announced on Wednesday that it is reopening lobbies at additional agencies in its five states, starting this week. United closed lobbies in March in response to CDC recommendations to limit the spread of COVID-19. Twenty branch lobbies in the Carolinas and Georgia will reopen with specific security measures to protect employees and customers. Other branch locations will take place in the coming weeks.
