Here’s an update on how Georgia and South Carolina are doing this flu season

AUGUSTA, Georgia. (WRDW / WAGT) – There is some good news about the pandemic: Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that seasonal flu activity is lower than normal this year.

In the week ending January 23, Oklahoma was the only state to report a moderate level of cases.

Both Georgia and South Carolina are reporting a minimum level.

However, doctors say that although the flu season has started more slowly, cases are starting to increase.

At the Conway Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, doctors attended 30 to 60 cases in November and December.

But in January, that number jumped to about 100.

“Obviously, the vast majority of these cases were outpatient, but we still saw, as I said, more cases in January than in the previous three months combined,” said Dr. Paul Richardson.

Doctors say precautions taken due to the pandemic, such as wearing a mask, may have helped slow the spread of flu.

If you still want to get a flu shot this season and are also eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine, experts say to wait two weeks between vaccines.
